LAS CRUCES – The LCPS Board of Education paid special tribute to three school district employees who are members of the Classified School Employees Council of Las Cruces (CSECLC) and have received statewide awards. Recognized at the board’s Tuesday, December 16, 2008 meeting, and introduced by CSEC-LC President Irma Valdespino, were:

  • Leonard Almaguer, an electrician with the LCPS Physical Plant Department. He is the National Education Association of New Mexico’s Southwest Region Educational Support Professional of the Year for 2008;
  • Terry Ybarra, educational assistant at Highland Elementary School. She is a nominee for NEANM State Educational Support Professional of the Year for 2009
  • Milas McLeod, an educational assistant at Sierra Middle School. McLeod is the NEA-NM Southwest Regional Advocate of the Year for 2009.

“Recognizing that support staff are an essential component and integral part in the education of our children, the NEA Educational Support Professional of the Year recognizes support staff for their outstanding contributions and service for children of their school district. Leonard and Terry exemplify this,” said Valdespino.

“For his tremendous advocacy in assisting LCPS school employees, Milas has been given this recognition. Milas is greatly respected by LCPS administrators. He is truly a man of integrity. Milas is also one of the co-founders of CSEC-LC,” said Valdespino.
